The most affordable lodging, coupled with things to do, can be found in the north end of the Monterey Bay. A cluster of hotels serves the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, most within walking distance of the amusement park and beach. During the summer these hotels fill up fast, but a little planning and an off-season rate means a room for as little as $50. Of course, the further from the beach, the lower the hotel rate.
Try the Sea Breeze Inn for rooms close to the center of all the action. Some come with kitchenettes. Kitchenettes are also available at the Riverside Inn, about two blocks to the beach, and at the Big 6. A bit closer to downtown Santa Cruz is the Victorian Inn and situated on the main drag into town is the Inn Cal and Islander Motel.
